Instructor Profiles

Dave Coard (Head Coach)

I have always been interested in fitness and my passion started at the age of 9 with boxing. I began to develop my fitness career at the age of 19 when I started to coach boxers and established a boxing club in Dunstable. I am the founder of the Boxfit Fitness Club in Luton, which extends to circuit classes, personal training, triathlon training, spin/run classes and running sessions.

I strongly believe in the relationship between a healthy body and a healthy mind, which in turn results to a well balanced lifestyle. I train people of varying abilities and will encourage and motivate them to work towards their full potential, achieving their health, fitness and weight loss goals. I believe that through fitness you can achieve great things and that is why I always try to link my fitness to helping charities and people who are less fortunate than me.

ABA Coach, British Boxing Board of Control Coach, SAQ/YMCA Personal Trainer, ISRM Gym Instructor, BFT Coach (Triathlon).

Personal Trainer to SKY1 Fat Families programme. Finisher of 3 Ironman Triathlons. London Marathon finisher. Competed in a number of Triathlons, Duathlons and 8 Marathons. Completed my first Double Marathon in November 2011 and raised money for the ‘With a Little Kindness’ appeal. Organised various fitness events, including gym based cross training challenges – profits were donated to the local Keech cottage, a hospice for terminally ill patients. Organised a number of Aquathlons where all monies raised where donated to a local family who desperately required a modified car for their disabled son. Successfully organised a Charitable Boxing event where the proceeds were donated to Keech cottage. In October 2011 we staged the first ‘On Your Marks’ 2K, 5K and 10K race for the Luton and Dunstable Premature baby unit, resulting in over 250 runners enjoying a fantastic event and £11,700 being raised for the charity, it was so successful that the hospital requested we held the event again in October 2012, resulting in £9,000 being raised. One of my biggest achievements took place in September 2012, myself and my Boxfit team completed the Enduroman Arch to Arc Triathlon, raising £17,000 (through numerous fund raising events) for the Brain Tumour Trust.

Jeanette Walster

I have always had a love for sport and fitness which started when I was at school competing at county level in swimming and athletics.  Following a career break in my late twenties, during which I had two children, I decided not to return to my office finance job but instead took the decision to make a career of my love for fitness.  I wanted to encourage others to make the most of a healthy lifestyle and so I decided to become a personal trainer. Having attained a Level 3 CYQ Personal Training and Gym Instruction qualification I became a fitness instructor in a fitness club where I worked for 2 years gaining experience in the industry. In 2010 I set up my own personal training business and since then have enjoyed helping groups and individuals improve their fitness levels. In addition to active training I also advise on nutrition as this is a very important part of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Recently I have decided to concentrate on triathlon training and have achieved a Level 1 coaching qualification. This has enabled me to coach all three triathlon disciplines to children at after school clubs and summer camps.

I regularly take part in competitions. As well as providing a focal point for my training it also encourages those whom I train and demonstrates what can be achieved by regular training.

Personal Achievements:

2006 – Part of a team of 12 who set a new world record distance for a 24 hour treadmill run

2008 – British Indoor Rowing Champion for my age group/category

2011 – Completed my first iron man distance triathlon in 11 hours 31 minutes

2012 – Achieved GB qualification for my age group over the standard triathlon distance

2012 – Part of a team of 6 who completed the Enduroman Arch to Arc Challenge

2013 – Completed the City to Summit iron man distance triathlon in Scotland

Mark Avil

I have been involved in sport all of my life, competing at various levels including at World age group level. As well as competing, I have coached formally and informally many athletes in various sports.

The most significant experiences I can share and use have been gained from supporting and coaching a triathlete to become the world junior and Under 23 champion and going onto to compete in the Olympics. This has given me an in depth understanding of the training regimes required to successful at the highest levels in sport. I am also able to help triathletes understand and manage the mental challenges involved in competing and improving performances to achieve personal goals.

I maintain an excellent level of fitness and still regularly compete at World level. This enables me to train alongside my athletes whether swimming, biking or running, and gain a good view of their technique and practice. I believe that my ability to give timely, informative and corrective feedback is key to being an effective coach.
